Today, we made an ancient Maya chocolate drink called Xocolatl or Kukuh.
Unlike today’s hot chocolate, Xocolatl is very bitter, more like dark chocolate than milk that we are used to. Knowing what it is like and how bitter it is, we added some honey and vanilla extract to make our drink a little more palatable for our taste buds.
As a part of our Xocolatl day, we learnt how to draw an ancient Maya god and painted it with melted chocolate. We used dark chocolate for the outlines and milk chocolate for the inside space.
We also tried roasted cocoa beans and dark chilli chocolate!
