Victorian Day19 October 2020 (by admin) |
Today the children enjoyed role playing scenes taken from famous pictures of Florence Nightingale.
The children were asked to think about what the characters in the paintings were thinking or saying to each other. The children showed real empathy with the characters suggesting that they were waiting for medicine or that the nurses must have been tired.
They were able to share their knowledge of hospitals before Florence Nightingale got there. They told us they were dirty places where people died. Cade said "The rats there spread germs."
In the afternoon the children made and designed merit medals. Florence Nightingale was the first woman to receive an order of merit.
We also had fun making lamps.
We would like to thank everyone who helped the children with their costumes. They looked fantastic and helped make our day so special.
